It's the holidays now but it's been super messy and I've been spending even more than one whole semester of school. Ever since school ended (the last two weeks were so crazy), I've been all over the place. I'm going to try to write everything chronologically.
The last few submissions were so straining, I could only do the best I could with the time given. Still, I'm not very satisfied with my submissions. I'll definitely be re-writing a lot, though. I wasn't very happy with our stop motion video either, but it was such a relief to be finally done with it. We have so much more to learn, I'm both tired and eager to begin.
My memory kind of worries me sometimes, I really don't remember much after submissions. I think my brain needed to go on a napathon, but I didn't. I vaguely remember going to our class outing and forcing Red Velvet cupcakes I baked with Esther and Alia on innocent classmates. (That sounds way more diabolical than it was.) We watched The Giver afterwards, and I thought it was a good movie, other than the horrible unnecessary romance and how the baby managed to survive. [spoilers] I can believe that a "miracle" happened and they both managed to survive the fall off the cliff and being dumped into a river and going down a waterfall, but I can't believe that the baby managed to survive with no food??? One scene had the protagonist feeding the baby formula in a bottle?????? How????? The protagonist also fainted from the cold and he was bleeding from the cold but the baby didn't die???????? [/spoilers] I still haven't gotten the book from Trina - both she and Caleb say it's good.
Sometime during the week I do not remember, I went for an interview as well as the Popular book sale with Wesley. And then I forced some episodes of some things on him. Oops. I also think the email that I was shortlisted for the Chiba exchange program came during this week, as did my interview and my acceptance email ヽ(≧▽≦)ノ
After that, my memory is unclear on the timeline for a bit, so things are kinda mushed together. We went to celebrate my mother's birthday the day after her actual birthday, for reasons unclear to me right now. I baked her a chocolate orange cake on her actual birthday, though. She was asleep for most of it. The day after, we went for dim sum at a place in Toa Payoh and we all ate way too much.
Then we drove for pretty much the whole day (no idea why), and went to a park in Changi. It was so quiet! And I made a bad pun on my Instagram. It was pretty bad.
I also went to Esther's house a bit after the class outing, because I was so enamoured with one of her dogs, Natsu. He is absolutely adorable, and even fluffier than the rug at Ikea. It's probably a horrible comparison to make, but it's true. And he's warm and so docile, gosh. We watched about five episodes of In The Flesh with Isabel, Esther's sister. And ate. A lot. I have a vague recollection of Esther and I going to Citilink's Sushi Express and talking about mameshiba and clowns and baking, but I can't remember the before or after. Is this a problem?
I know I watched The Maze Runner for the first time on the 12th of September, because it was the first Friday after it came out here. But I'm not sure where it lies with the other things I did so far this holiday. Anyway, Wen Mei already booked me to watch it, so I couldn't watch it with the class after an interview we had for the SEA Games. I kept bugging her to push our first watch earlier, because I wanted to catch it ASAP. She had her mini-internship and was really tired, and I felt really bad :( but we still managed to catch the 10pm show on Friday and, Oh. My. God. The movie is fantastic!! It's quite different from the book in the little details, but so brilliant. I'm so proud, even though I didn't contribute to this production. Wen Mei and I could feel the mind blown-ness from the whole theatre after the movie was done, ugh, so good. Best adaptation of a book and best live-action movie I've seen in a while. Side note: the couple seats are super comfortable. We didn't realise the other couple seats had, well, couples, so we carried on normally. I only realised after the movie that some guy was looking at us weirdly. Oops?
I'm preeeeetty sure after this the next outing was on a Monday. Alia, Kate and I marathoned about ten episodes of Avatar: The Last Airbender. Not the blue people. We all agreed that the live-action movie was horrible and not to be spoken of, and that Katara and Aang were better off as a platonic relationship. Then, we met Esther for dinner at Citilink's Sushi Express. I love that place, I've been there at the very least, ten times. As usual, I ate the most plates of sushi :( We went shopping at Suntec's H&M, and we saw this cute shirt. I didn't buy it, though. I'm really broke :'(
The next day, I was prepared for a hobo session, but my sister's classmate's mother and my mum wanted to go out to eat. When in doubt, opt for sushi. We went to Tampines' Sushi Express (they should really make me an ambassador) and ate way too much. Again. I have no shame when it comes to sushi. Lithium's classmate, Jayden, can really eat sushi! Not bad - he ate six plates by himself and shared the chocolate brownie with his sister. All my sister ate was sushi rice(ー△ー;)after sending Jayden's family home, we went to Mustafa. I bought some souvenirs for the homestay family :)
Lately I've had a strange obsession with fluffy plush toys.
Continuing with the food/salmon trend, my family and Jayden's family went to Ikea for food on Wednesday. Their salmon is really dry, 0/10, would not buy again for the price. I liked the potato-broccoli-cheese patty thing, though. I haven't liked Ikea's meatballs since the horse meat debacle, I used to have it almost all the time. And we had ice cream after :D
Yes, I realised that I used the same photo affect a lot. The next day (I think) I went to the orthodontist at the National Dental Centre for my braces, but there's a lot of unpleasant drama and will be posted later.
I was late to the very first Chiba trip meeting :( It was really awkward and there I was, trying to inconspicuously charge my phone for a long day ahead. During introductions, I couldn't remember everyone's names. So many Chinese names >< I'm way too used to the English names with my media consumption and all. As with every introduction, my name was remembered and asked about. It's actually strange if it doesn't happen, honestly. I'll be blogging throughout the trip and will be taking photos! Am both nervous and excited.
After the meeting, I met up with Jenny to catch up. Esther has pulled me to the dark side of smoothies and I have a weird order. I can't decide on a drink, so I get Boost's Banana Buzz and change the honey and vanilla yoghurt to strawberries and strawberry yoghurt respectively. It's always a mess at the payment counter. Somehow we moved from talking and smoothies to shopping. I am really broke, guys :( After Jenny left, I met up with Rochele for moral support for her GPA results. Ngee Ann is really efficient, releasing their GPA three days before the rest of the polytechnics. She did pretty well, in my opinion. And we went for more shopping and food.
I really love the spaghetti at this place - it's good and somewhat affordable. (photo taken from Rochel's instagram)
The whole week was really tiring, and I planned to bake with Claire and Girwina, so I was both late and hobo when I met Girwina. Seriously. Slippers and FBT shorts. We made chocolate chip cookies and peach jelly.
So good. We huddled up in my mess of a room and watched Princess Diaries 2. It was great! I really love the movie, I've watched it at least five times. I think my siblings finished the cookies by the next day's morning. And then we made even more cookies on Sunday. Watched Minicsule: The Valley of the Lost Ants with my family - it's such a cute movie. There's no dialogue at all, and is actually an adaptation of the TV series.
I met up with Imren and Rochele on Tuesday - we were supposed to go back to Hai Sing to see the teachers, but it didn't happen. Waited until I met Rochele to see my GPA. The wait more stressful than actually checking. I did okay, though I'm somewhat disappointed. I got a distinction for the aforementioned stop motion video, though, so that's amazing.
We decided to watch The Maze Runner IMAX!! It's amazing. It's $12 for student price, and the screen is so huge! Super duper proud of the cast and crew and so happy for James Dashner for an amazing adaptation in the midst of a whole slew of horrible book adaptations.
We just really wanted to take photos with the panda and this amazingly atrocious statue, but the lighting was hideous.
I'm kind of proud of this shot. The lighting is bad though. You can't see Rochele and Imren modeling with the car :P
I also tried some stuff from breadsociety and it's really good. I like the onion and cheese bread, their cinnamon roll, and the mushroom bread. Kind of pricey, but worth it. Forgot to grab pictures :( For dinner we tried the monster curry - aka Japanese curry in a huge plate.
It's bigger than my head and half the plate was enough to make me full. I also need a haircut.
On Wednesday I was too lazy to do anything and I started on Community. I finished it the day before yesterday - it's so good and I have a huge crush on Abed/Danny Pudi. It's kind of embarrassing. I got the hugest plot twist of the week when I found out he's older than Tyler Hoechlin and is married. With kids. I recommend the first three seasons of Community! Season 5 is horrible and should not be talked about. To me, anyway.
After more teeth drama the next day, my mum and I went to Malaysia with her friend. I bought two bags for S$10 each and finally had some lasagne for lunch. We went to a camera shop - I've been wondering if I should get my own DSLR. Surprisingly, I like taking photos. Not on a smart phone, though. It just feels so weird. I always thought I'd do horribly in the photography module we have, but I did the best. I'm deciding between Nikon's D5200 and D7000 right now. They're both old models but enough for what I need and (somewhat) within my budget. Still expensive, though.
We had dinner at Secret Recipe - Chicken salad was nah, the sauce was not good :(
We got home late and I didn't sleep enough - was so tired the next day at the Chiba trip meeting. I didn't know which floor the Da Vinci floor was on (the 4th flour, by the way) at the main library and tried to push open a sliding door :( Some of us went for brunch after that. Everyone seems pretty nice. I'm a little stressed about the home stay and onsen for the trip, though.
Clearly I am a hermit and have barely been out of the house - this holiday is the most I've gone out in a short time period. It's really tiring. So it's understandable that Wesley and I wandered around in Bugis, sweating, until we gave up and retreated into the air conditioned mall. To this day, I have no idea what it's called.
This was a horribly long recap and I should really post more often. Here's to regular updates!
