recent updates
I know it's only been a few posts since my last "recent updates," but it's been hectic and lots of things have happened. I'm back from Japan - I will be writing about my time in Japan, but there's a lot to edit and photos to gather so that'll have to wait.

So, previously on zinct.blogspot.com...

No, I'm kidding.

Well, I turned seventeen, but it feels the same - I wonder if this is how I'll feel in five years' time. I want to thank people who celebrated with me and the people who wished me a happy birthday.

Almost immediately after that (time seems to flash by), I went to Japan for ten days. It was really fun and tiring. I had so many new experiences and met so many different people. I'll be posting about that ASAP.

I also broke my phone in Japan, Disneysea to be exact. I wasn't able to keep in contact with people or take photos. The latter was a huge bummer :( I've fixed my phone, though. It wasn't difficult to be without a phone in Japan but it was terrible in Singapore.

Most importantly, I've dyed my hair! Again. I wanted a pinkish-galaxyish colour, but I just went for it and got a Christmas theme *laughcry emoji* It's not bad! I quite like green on my hair, actually.

sixteen going on seventeen

I've been procrastinating on this post for so long because so much happened. I'm so grateful for all the birthday wishes I got (still getting them wow) on Sunday.

So, my birthday was on October 5th and from my previous post I said that the people from the Chiba trip celebrated with me (as well as those dining and working at Aston's at the time):

And on Friday my mum and her friends baked me a rainbow cake (as a rehearsal for one of her friends' kid's birthdays oops):

Which, I actually helped frost my "birthday cake" *laughcry emoji*

And then on Saturday Wen Mei and Trina came over! They actually booked me and planned this, I'm really touched :') we did absolutely nothing but eat pizza and make jelly and watch things - on our own laptops *laughcry emoji* kids nowadays!! Well, we watched How To Get Away With Murder together, which is was great, because our tastes vary and we don't watch the same thing all the time. The show is awesome so far, though!! 15/10 would recommend.

They got me Pokémon Emerald!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Honestly so touched, I've been harping on about my brother losing my copy of Emerald (also a birthday present) in Japan the first time we went. As for the yoghurt, well, I adore yoghurt in almost all its forms. They got me a Kuroko keychain too, as if I don't have enough of him already which is super duper.

Y'all will just have to deal with sucky shots by me.
Cheesy crust and my weird veggie pizza that no one else ate. Yum.

Sunday! Happy birthday to me :D At midnight I received tons of birthday messages and wishes and my mum posted collages on insta :')

Wen Mei slept over and I actually woke up before her wowow. She left and my family and I went to some swanky beachside restaurant for birthday lunch.

They sang me a birthday song!!!!!!
Cake was good, but not for the price.

The only photo I took myself. Pretty, though dim.

For the food and the price, not worth another visit. For the view, yes, please do!! There's a swimming pool and a lounge and all the fancy things so I'd go to take photos :) After that I went to meet Yanta and Debbie for dinner. We already delayed it for an hour or so for my lunch and yeah it was late. Yanta was even later for once, and he wasn't responding to all our messages (for two hours) so we got worried. Turns out he was sleeping all along >:(((((

Yanta's selfie skills really suck.

My "birthday cake."
Then on Monday I went to La Marelle with Imren (birthday girl!), Atikah, Sean and Rochele. Will post about it another time, though. After that I went for another "birthday" celebration with my family :D They bought me three Zinc bags and we went for Kiseki buffet. They think they're cute. (They are.)

Kiseki buffet is great!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I was so busy eating that I didn't take any photos at all. The sashimi is super duper über wonderful!!!!!!!!! 20/10!!!!!!!!! $20 for weekday lunch, $36 for weekend dinner. Not a bad price for its quality. Weekends include the crab for the extra money, I think.

We had a reservation and this was our table number. Good table!!!!! Near the salmon sashimi, heh heh.

Our table.
This was our view :P They had balcony tables but I think our location was the most strategic.
My sister actually liked the soba. Which is pretty amazing, because she's the pickiest eater.

A whole mountain of wasabi. One of the most terrifying sights I've seen in a while.
They had a whole mountain of sashimi when we went in! Obviously I was too busy to take photos.
I don't even want to know how many plates of this I took.

Pizza! My brother said someone snagged the whole pizza when he was about to take a slice. They have baked rice, too.

Chawanmushi!!!!! I am judgy about few things, but this is one of them. 15/10 would eat again! It's not the most amazing in terms of toppings, but the actual chawanmushi itself was wonderful. It wasn't holey or dry but silky and I don't even want to know how many servings of this I had. Too many.
The sign is super cute. I think they put this for the salmon heads.
Their bread pudding was great! Not the best I've eaten, but then, it was made by Yanta's mum, so I don't think it can be beat.
Dessert time!!! Their chocolate fondue was pretty good.
Tofu cheesecake. Interesting flavour.
Gelato. They had Mango, Matcha, Yuzu, Chocolate, and...
!!!! I was too much of a scaredy-cat to try this but my mum did, so I took a bit of hers. It's not bad, but I wouldn't try it again. There's the wasabi flavour and the milkyness of gelato, but not the shoot-through-your-nose-ness of actual wasabi, if that makes sense.
Free flow of toppings, though I didn't have any. My sister's favourite part.
My plate! They had macarons too, but they ran out too fast for my mum to snap a shot of them. It was really good! Not too sweet or dry with passable feet(? I forgot what it's called).
Me being too full.
15/10 must must for lovers of Japanese cuisine.
We ate for an hour and rested for the next two hours or so. When we finally got off our butts to walk, this is what happened:
My sister re-enacting "Do You Wanna Build a Snowman?" while I just flopped at the back. So full and so tired.
It kinda looks like my brother is chatting me up.

All in all, it's been one of the best birthdays I've had and I wanna thank everyone who wished me or gave me presents or spent time with me. <3 <3

adventure time
Lately, everyday has been such an adventure. Tiring, but fun.

Yesterday I went to Luxola's headquarters to collect my order and I got lost in Tiong Bahru. The directions they gave me were to take bus 5 from the MRT, for two stops. There were so many bus stops :( so I went to the nearest bus stop and got on bus 5. Two stops later, I was lost. I wandered around until I found their headquarters - 203 Henderson Road. The people were pretty nice and I got more free gifts, too. Two of the same thing, though. I guess I can give it away. From there I got lost again -.-" walked aimlessly till I found a bus stop that went to Vivocity, where I was supposed to meet Alia, Esther, Kate and Aishah. When the first bus came, I moved to get on the bus, but the bus driver saw me and DROVE OFF >:( I was so shocked I stood there for a second and made a scandalised sound when I turned around - another commuter was just staring at my embarrassment :(

But anyway, you'd think with a bus directory that explicitly states which stop to get off at I wouldn't get lost, right?

Nope.

When the next bus came, I didn't count the stops or notice where I was, so I got off at the next mall-looking place. I thought it was Viviocity, obviously, but it was some other mall at Labrador Park - a stop away from Vivocity. Fail me :( I actually even walked around for a bit before realising for sure that nope, that wasn't Vivocity.

Eventually I made my way to Vivo, of course, and met the girls. It seems like it's been so long since I've seen them all! Well, except Esther, since I met her the day before yesterday for a haircut. We were supposed to grab dinner, but we couldn't settle on a food place so we ended up buying sushi, chips and drinks from Cold Storage to eat at the Skypark. It was really nice up there, there were even some fireworks off in the distance.

Even though I slept before midnight last night, I didn't get enough sleep - I woke up at 3am and couldn't get back to sleep. It was tragic. I dragged myself out of bed to get ready to meet Joshua for pancakes :) It was nice seeing him again! The last time I saw him was probably Flag Day, almost half a year ago. I do miss some people from secondary school. He bought me something from his recent trip to Australia!

We went to the Prinsep Street outlet of Strictly Pancakes. It was too early, actually, even though I was kinda late. For a café that sells almost purely breakfast foods, it opens pretty late - 11.30am. We chatted a bit while waiting for it to open.

The lighting inside the café wasn't really good, so we couldn't take nice photos :( The pancakes were really good, though! We had a large stack of the original pancakes with sautéed mushrooms and the Strawberries & Co. pancakes. The mushrooms were really nice! And though still nice, the Strawberries & Co. pancakes weren't as good - I wouldn't recommend it. The service isn't worth the 10% service charge and 7% GST, in my opinion. Maybe the other outlet provides better service.

We still had time after we were subtly shooed out by the staff, so we went to Plaza Singapura :D Monoyono has beautiful decorations and interesting things, but totally out of my budget :( I'm coveting the Alice in Wonderland notebooks, Kate Spade 2015 planners and wall art. Maybe I'll redecorate when I get my new bed in! Then we went to Paper Market, I think. I got these:

They were S$1.90 each. Pretty! I love the definition thing - will now have to make space on my cluttered laptop for these. Joshua got the "Dreams" rub ons, which were S$2.90.

I left to go to school after that, and Joshua went off to meet Joel. I was supposed to go for the diploma plus talk; but it wasn't what I wanted so I left early with Aishah and Gabriel. Gabriel and I went to ION to meet Zi Ning and Eugenia to walk around before the bonding dinner for the Chiba trip. *insert airplane emoji* So excited! Emails of our host family profiles came today - I'll be staying with Genia. Our buddy is so cute! She drew us a card of her family members, I might do one for her too.

The rest came at the set time and we went to Aston's for dinner. I got the Grilled Fish with Herb with Mac and Cheese and Rice. It wasn't very good; the portions were quite disappointing and honestly, manna in school is better and cheaper. If I were to go again, I might get the spaghetti, since you can't really go wrong with spaghetti.

After we finished our food, I had a surprise - the group actually bought me a cupcake to celebrate my birthday in advance! I was so slow, I didn't notice until they took out the red velvet cupcake that Gabriel had asked me about earlier. He had a cupcake too, since his birthday was yesterday.

I didn't expect it at all, and it made me really happy :) We sang a combined birthday song and everyone at Aston's joined in, how cute :D I got a whoopie pie from Alia earlier today too. It's been tiring but fun, these few weeks. I'm thankful.
